Group Captain J M Stagg, Chief Meteorological Officer with the Royal Air Force, responsible for forecasting weather conditions for D Day.
Expert meteorologist, Group Captain James Stagg, became chief meteorological adviser to Eisenhower and headed the committee which forecast weather conditions in the weeks before D-Day. On 4 June it was Stagg who predicted a temporary break in the bad weather which could allow the landings to proceed on 6 June. Eisenhower based his decision to go ahead on this prediction.
