Group of Japanese Picture Brides on the Roof

Several dozen brides stand inside the covered Exercise Yard on the roof of the Administration Building. The term picture bride relates to an early twentieth century practice where immigrant workers would find a prospective bride through the services of a matchmaker who would help exchange photographs between the couple.
