Hélder Carvalho was born in 1954, lives and works in Porto. He graduated in Fine Arts from the School of Fine Arts of Porto, where he was student of Alberto Carneiro, Zulmiro de Carvalho, Fernando Pernes, Flávio Gonçalves, Álvaro Lapa and Jorge Pinheiro, among others. Was linked to artistic education, as a teacher in secondary and higher education while taking investigated as an artist, expressive language means especially in the context of three-dimensionality. In 2006 he completed a master's degree in "Art Craft and Design Education" at the University of Roehampton in London.
Currently he is dedicated exclusively to the practice of fine arts giving preference to the work of sculpture and where the practice of modeling is constituted as the expression technique longer in use. The production methods are varied as it depends on the purpose and concept that underlies it. So we can find in his work on objects made of various materials such as bronze, iron and other metals, polyester, marble or wood, with the corresponding use of techniques that are suited to him.
It is represented in various public and private institutions and has been referenced in magazines and specialty dictionaries. He is the author of several works of varied scale sculpture in public spaces spread throughout the country that stands out: Bust of General Humberto Delgado, Bragança; Bust of Raul Correia de Sá at the Municipal Library of Vila Flor; Bust of Engenheiro Camilo de Mendonça, Alfandega da Fé; Bust of Dr. Pimentel das Neves, Hospital Magalhães Lemos, Porto; Bust of the musicologist Bernardo Moreira de Sá, Porto Music Conservatory; Bust of Doctor Fernando Aguiar Branco, Fundação Eng Antonio de Almeida, Porto; Bust of cellist Guilhermina Suggia, Matosinhos; Allegoric set to Luis Vaz de Camoes and Vasco da Gama, Monpellier, France; Sculpture set of Tribute to Firefighters, Moncorvo Tower; Sculpture set of Homage to the postman, Bragança; Allegorical monuments to King Dinis and Queen Saint Isabel, Vila Flor; Eca de Queiroz statue, Canelas; Statue of Senhora do Douro, Freixo de Espada a Cinta; Monument "to the Men of the Sea," Praia da Vitória; Abel Salazar statue, Porto; Allegoric set of Tribute to Emigrant, Valpaços (in partnership with architect Gonçalo Castro Henriques); Allegorical monument to the 500th anniversary of Misericórdia de Braga.
