“All Jung-Wien music begins with Mahler. The fervent breath of the conductor, who was also a great man, animated all those who were young at the time.” (Adolf Weißmann) – The demise of musical Jung-Wien coincided with the death of its protector Gustav Mahler in May 1911. Mahler supported Schönberg in non-material and financial ways. As an ardent partisan for the young composer, he even helped him beyond death by providing a stipend for him. Arnold Schönberg kept the photograph of Mahler’s grave (gravestone: Josef Hoffmann) until his death.
