What is the function of that strange beak? Although its shape seems to make it uncomfortable, the crossbill beak is excellent for cutting the pine cones’ scales and taking the seeds off. It’s so skilled in doing this, it is called the Gypsy of the Alps which wanders following the spruce pine cones’ maturation.
