Hakakai (Ear ornament)

Hakakai. Ear ornament. Made of ivory. Thick and oval in shape, with a pointed, blunt and beaked shaped protrusion carved out from near the centre of the oval shaped base. There is a ridge and two grooves along the centre of the width of the oval base. Visible across each face of the ivory piece are natural growth rings. At the base of the protrusion are marks and scratches produced at the time of manufacture. There is a hole drilled near the base of the protrusion. Honey yellow in overall colour.
