Basing its product on the children's book "Shrek" by William Steig, Hollywood entertainment conglomerate Dreamworks released a computer-generated animated feature film in May 2001. The movie "Shrek" told the story of a lovable green ogre with low self-esteem who pairs up with a chatty, self-possessed Donkey. The two take on a stock bad guy, Lord Farquaad who lives in a theme park. This modern fairy tale takes aim at characters of more traditional stories like Snow White and Pinocchio, but doesn't wander too far from the feel-good, happy ending of time-honored fairy tales. Shrek the ogre after all wins the heart of Fiona, a spellbound princess who is Shrek's soulmate. The movie garnered an Academy Award and earned more than $265 million, making it the second most profitable animated film of all time (Lion King remains the most profitable). In May 2004, the release of "Shrek 2" brought an onslaught of new products, including this Shrek Halloween costume.
