Hallucigenia is a fossil organism that continues to mystify researches to the day. The fossil was discovered in ancient rocks from Canada and China with an age of more than 500 million years. The animal, which only reached a length of a few centimeters, probably moved by means of numerous stubby legs and also sported an equal number of spines. For a long time, it was unclear which of the appendages serves as feet and which as spines, thus leading to confusion which side was up and which was down.
