An abundance of obviously erotic innuendos and activities on the left side of the picture imply that the resting huntsman, accompanied by his embarrassedly amused servant, hopes to receive more from the hostess than just wine. The artistic delicacy with which the grey and the two dogs outlined by sunlight are portrayed in this later work testify to Potter as an outstanding master of animal painting, despite his short life span.
