In 1947 Gucci introduced a small handbag crafted in pigskin which featured a distinctive curved bamboo handle. The signature design was an instant hit and became an iconic example of the company’s craftsmen who were pushed to find solutions to war-time rationing of materials. Re-presented in 2010 as ‘The Gucci New Bamboo’, this handbag is made of 140 seperate pieces which are hand-assembled by artisans in Gucci’s workshops in Florence.
