Leather came to be in short supply during the Second World War forcing European manufacturers to experiment with new or different materials. This model is made from cordé, a material created by twisting strands of silk or wool together with wire or cord, and stitching these to a fabric base. It was advertised as the ‘dressiest, handsomest and longest wearing of all handbag fabrics’.
