Progressive Parisian couturière Elsa Schiaparelli produced designs for Whiting & Davis between 1936 and 1938. An advertisement from October 1937 describes the results: ‘There is the typical Schiaparelli touch in the way these new bag designs of hers combine Parisian chic with French practicality. Each of them is so different from the other and yet so perfectly appropriate for its own special time and place.’
