The work of Julio Rosado del Valle (1922 – 2008) has been called Abstract Expressionism because of its energetic brushwork, its brilliant colors, and the expressive freedom of its compositions. Yet this Latin American master has never abandoned references to his surroundings, whether the animal or botanical world, and including the tiniest creatures, or be it objects or parts of his own body. The work Handicapped takes a wheelchair as its reference.
