This porcelain handle, set at the top of an ivory cane and finely modelled with the bust of a lady, is a small masterpiece of elegance.
It has white raised volutes which form “cartouches”, small scrolls within which were painted purple putti and colourful flowers.
Similar handles, as well as porcelain perfume jars, pillboxes, thimbles or snuffboxes produced at Meissen were among the refined little gift objects known as galanteries.
