The Idu Mishmi women have a very rich tradition of textile weaving. The women are highly skilled in weaving different types of fabric, patterns and designs. They use simple backstrap looms usually fixed in their balconies where they weave in between household chores.

- About the craft: The Idu Mishmis constitute one of the sub-communities of the Mishmis, an ethnic community who are believed to have migrated from erstwhile Tibet and Burma, and inhabit the Upper and Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit and Anjaw districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The Idu Mishmis, who migrated from Tibet, are mainly settled in the foothills and high grounds of the Mishmi hills. The Idus have their distinct dialect, which falls under the Tibeto-Burman group of languages. Traditionally, Idu-Mishmis believe in animism. They worship Maselo-Zinu and Nani Intaya as creators of mankind and universe as a whole. The Idus can be easily identified by their clothes having distinctive patterns and colours. The Idu Mishmis have very rich craft traditions of textile and bamboo weaving.
