Arnold Schönberg Estate.

This is the mark of my right thumb | the one on the left. | here my signature with a ballpoint pen: Arnold Schönberg | Here is a sample of my Latin script; written rather quickly.

This is written with the gold nib, which I used to use more often. Also now I prefer it to all others.| When I have writer’s cramp, and not a broad-pointed nib, I sometimes write like this: only half from the side; to rest a little. Arnold Schönberg | Mödling, 28 May 1923
Now I have this thin fountain pen and this one is also a bit different now I suddenly have a very fine (thin) writing! | My writing looks even different with this pen, with which I write small notes. | Also I should not forget that sometimes I write Latin like this (but rarely) | and that I write in manuscripts or better in printed sheets printed in Latin script (unintentionally) with this Latin script. | So many different writings of one person – so many faces? Where is the character. Well hopefully I have one! Where not so I have many. Arnold Schoenberg

The Arnold Schönberg Estate contains the records of Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951), a composer, painter, teacher, theoretician, and innovator who is ranked amongst the prominent artistic figures in the history of western culture. His writings, apart from his compositions, are valuable documents for the musical, intellectual, and cultural history of the first half of the 20th century, as well as for exile studies, and thus for contemporary history. They are evidence of the multifaceted interests of an eminent artistic personality, and also address questions of aesthetics, Jewish affairs, politics, and religion.
