Hanukah lamp, Palestine, 1925

Brass Hanukah lamp, formed from a World War I shell case and engraved with Hanukah blessings and presentation inscription in Hebrew. The lamp was presented to Sir Herbert Samuel, the first British High Commissioner for Palestine, 1920-25. Presentation inscription reads "An everlasting souvenir for the High Commissioner of the Land of Israel, Eliezer ben Menahem, whom God protect. In his days may Judah and Israel be saved. Amen."
