Ludwig Wolpert often used Hebrew letters as integral to the design of his Jewish ceremonial objects. The letters are both structural and ornamental, expressing the sacred and spiritual power of the Hebrew alphabet. This mass-produced Hanukkah lamp was designed by Wolpert in Israel, and subsequently discontinued. The glass oil containers come from the science laboratory of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The main decorative component of the Hanukkah lamp, the Hebrew letters, are the phrase: "It is desirable to praise you."
