This highly powerful image of the Monkey God is a beautiful depiction of the valorous act of carrying the entire drona mount in service to his Lord, Rama. When Lakshmana was felt unconscious in the battle, the herb that could revive him was only to be found in this mountain in the far north of Himalayan hills. Hanuman went to fetch the herb. Failing to identify it he uprooted the entire mountain and brought it the camp in Lanka.
In this miniature, his tail is shown in toughness and length to show that he is balancing the weight of the mountain on his hand. The jewellery- golden gridle, anklets, armbands and large earrings are an additional feature to the majestic personality of Hanuman. The contrast of green and orange is a typical feature of Raghogarh paintings.
