Wang Tongren was born in Lanzhou, Gansu Province in 1937. He was admitted to the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1955. In 1967, he was invited to create giant oil paintings "Oriental Red" and "Long Live Chairman Mao" for the "China Construction Achievement Exhibition" held in Albania, and was cordially received by Premier Minister Zhou Enlai. Now he is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, the Chinese Calligrapher Association and the vice director of the Arts Committee of Beijing Yanhuang Art Museum. He was the director of the Ink and Wash Figure Studio and the Basic Course Studio of the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. His representative works include Oriental Red, Maqu Women, Yunfei Tu, Military and Civilian Fish in the Plateau, Gawa in the Plateau, etc. He has published "Wang Tongren Painting Collection", "Wang Tongren Sketch", "Splashing ink between heaven and earth", "Yihai Picking up shellfish", "Ink Animal Painting Techniques" .
