Hard Construction Work, Triptych, right: Women Extruding Tiles

This painting is the right side of a triptych depicting post World War II construction work. It is a scene of four women using an extruding machine to form and cut clay building tiles. The centerpiece of the triptych (not shown) shows several new buildings on Stalin Avenue in East Berlin. It socialist countries such as post-war Germany, it was important to show woman doing the same kinds of jobs and work as men in an effort to promote equality. Realistically, World War II drastically depleted Germany's workforce, and women were a necessary part of the rebuilding.
