Benjamin Harrison, Republican presidential candidate in 1888 and 1892, was the grandson of a William Henry Harrison, the ninth U. S. President. Republicans capitalized on this political lineage. Slogans (Tippecanoe) and symbols (log cabins and barrels of cider) popular during the 1840 race adorned Benjamin's campaign materials. It helped in 1888--Benjamin was elected; he lost in 1892.
