Harvest Time

In Harvest Time, Richard Lorenz shows the gathering of grain in the open landscape of Western Wisconsin (Spring Green, WI). Consistent with the division of labor common since the Middle Ages, the man cuts the culms with a scythe while the woman gathers the stalks and rakes bundles. The complementary colors of the golden-yellow grain and the blue sky have been arranged to create a peaceful, harmonious composition.
