Hat and Plume

This cocked hat forms part of the uniform for a County Lieutenant for the City of London.

The hat is made from black 'plush', a substitute fabric for beaver fur originally used for earlier hats. The hat reflects the high-ranking status of the wearer. It is topped with a detachable plume of red and white swan feathers.
