The characters on the bottom of the seal are engraved in intaglio, which would result in white characters surrounded by the vermillion ink. The characters are an ancient form used during the Warring States period and are to be read from left to right. The dancer image is idyllic with long sleeves flowing with graceful movements. Her face is fine and smooth. Ancient jade seals for private use often featured carvings of auspicious objects, birds, or beasts. With his name engraved on it, the owner of this seal possibly intended it to be used in warding off evil forces and praying for blessings; it would also have served a practical function. This seal has a unique style and clever design. It holds a significant position in the history of Chinese seals, jade, and carved arts.
