Head of a Bearded Man

John Greenhill, John GreenhillMid-1660s

Dulwich Picture Gallery

Dulwich Picture Gallery
London, United Kingdom

"Identified as the painting of ‘A man with a bald head’ in the inventory of William Cartwright's collection, a drawing by Greenhill of the same sitter is in the Cartwright album of drawings at Dulwich College.

It has been suggested that the sitter may be foreign, owing to the fact that his beard and costume are unusual for the Restoration period."
