The Cycladic islands experienced a high point of prosperity in the Early Bronze Age, 3200-2000 BC. This marble head from the island of Amorgos is among the earliest marble sculptures of humans from the ancient Greek world. With its well preserved painted decorations, the simple features seem almost beautifully abstract. The idol presumably had a religious significance of some sort.
