Head of a Roebuck

Albrecht Dürer is considered by many to be the greatest German artist of all time, and his drawings are marvels of naturalism. In this example he captures the fear of the hunted animal in the roebuck's wide, alert eyes. The technique of parallel strokes of the pen, especially on its brow and below the eye, conveys the animal's nervous energy by the simplest of means.
