This relief, badly damaged by fire in May 1945, is supposed to have been in the Palazzo Torrigiani in Florence at one time. The facial type and the freshness of the formal conception point to Luca della Robbia as the artist. But the originally thick glaze has prompted ascription of this head of a youth to Luca’s nephew, Andrea della Robbia, or perhaps a collaboration between the two. The medallion may show a young Florentine as David or St. George.
