Close to the style of Praxiteles, this head is a rare original example of the major late Classical sculpture known mostly from Roman copies. Since the neck is worked for insertion, it must have been set in a draped statue. A ribbon circles the goddess' head twice, and loops of hair are pulled up from under it to create the popular hairstyle of the time known as lampadion or "little torch."
