Head of Athena

First half of the 4th century BC

MArTA - Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Taranto

MArTA - Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Taranto
Taranto, Italy

The goddess wears a helmet of the Apulian-Corinthian type, with reddening due to the oxidation of an iron fastener. It is part of a votive statuette from one of the sanctuaries of Saturo, plausibly dedicated to the goddess Athena.
