John Koch is a critical 20th-century realist artist. He is best known for elegant Vermeer-like paintings of fashionable Manhattan and New England mansion dwellers, models, musicians, and his own stylish 14-room apartment facing Central Park West, New York City. His early studies, such as this drawing, already exhibit the air of sophistication he depicted in all his subjects.
