A helmet is worn on the top of this round head and a butterfly-shaped flower hairpin is attached to the back of the head, the centered tied with a broad band with hair ornaments on both sides. The eyebrows and eyelids are painted in black and the earholes, nostrils, and lips are coated in vermillion. The head would have originally been multi-colored. It is generally believed that figurines with hairpins represented people of higher social status than those with flat heads.
