On the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky's work, we decided to focus of the Shades of Dance 2013 project on the theme of “Ritual and Ceremony”.
Shades of Dance 2013 – “Ritual and Ceremony” – a competitive project, a competition that takes place every two years for original, youthful, Israeli dance works.
/// 6 artists were chosen out of 60 proposals submitted.
/// 2 international choreographers. Yakufo Godani and Andonis Foniadakis, guided the artists during their work, along with the artistic director.
/// Students from the Studio 6B design school designed the costumes for all of the works in coordination with the artists and with the cooperation of school principal Ido Recanati, and Shades of Dance artistic director Idit Herman.
/// 2 professional lighting designers designed the lighting for the works.
/// 7 performances took place during the event:
/// August 28 at the Suzanne Dellal Hall, opening night with the work by Hillel Kogen, “The Rite of Spring”...With a dramatic series of pictures, and in compliance with Stravinsky's score, spring is depicted as a measured time, with an urgent opportunity for realization of desires and for conquest...
In the second part of the evening, artists and dancers from Israel's leading gallery of independent dance artists were invited to take part in an improvisational session to the music of “The Rite of Spring,” led by Idit Herman, the artistic director.
/// August 29-31 in the Yaron Yerushalmi Hall – 6 works created by the artists of Colors of Dance 2013.
/// A professional panel of judges was appointed to select the winner of the choreography prize.
