This drawing is particularly carefully fashioned, and rather than emphasising the linear silhouette of the figure as in many other drawings, whether in pencil, ink or chalk, Thorvaldsen has given a precise account of the body and dress, movements and gesticulations of the figure of Hector. The Trojan warrior is portrayed as strikingly imperious, presumably as he tries to persuade his weak brother Paris to leave the fair Helen and fight the Greeks. This sketch of Hector has no direct counterpart among Thorvaldsen’s reliefs.
