In 1952 (the year this photograph was taken), the city of João Pessoa was visited by the 1st First Musical Artistic Mission, which visited capitals in the Northeast of Brazil. Sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Health and headed by Villa-Lobos, the Mission presented conferences and recitals in the city of Paraíba, interpreting chamber music by Brazilian composers.
