Lionel’s Hell Gate Bridge models the original span over the East River. Now part of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor line, Hell Gate Bridge was the world’s longest steel arch bridge from its completion in 1916 until 1931. Lionel’s designers frequently drew inspiration from New York’s rail infrastructure and trusted that customers in all cities recognized and admired Gotham. Lionel’s largest and most elaborate toy bridge could accommodate one track in their trademark “Standard” gauge or two tracks in the smaller O-gauge.
