GOING HUNTING

“2nd of Jan. The journey continues towards Asyut; on the way we saw bands of wild ducks, pelicans, herons and other waterfowl. The men attempted to shoot one of them for a trophy from both the large boat and a rowing boat, but they were not successful. We took long walks along the riverbank or sat on the boat, entertaining ourselves as best we could until the men returned from the hunt.” (from Ida Uhse’s travel diary)
