Henry Eckford (1823 - 1905) was gardener to Earl of Radnor at Coleshill in Berkshire and established his Wem nursery in 1888, specialising in Sweet Peas. Washington Atlee Burpee (1858-1915) was the founder of the W. Atlee Burpee & Company in 1876, now commonly known as Burpee Seeds.
