Henry L. Stimson was a renowned American politician. In 1932, he had formulated the Stimson Doctrine as Secretary of State, establishing that the US would not recognize any Japanese annexations of China. Serving as Secretary of War from 1940 until 1945, he participated in the Potsdam Conference in July 1945. There, it was Stimson that provided Churchill on the 21st and the 22nd of July with details about the successful nuclear weapons test Trinity. The Secretary of War left the Potsdam Conference prematurely on July 25th, returning to Washington to oversee the war effort. (Josef Mlejnek)
