The roundel displays the arms of Charles Brandon, First Duke of Suffolk. The shield has two quarters with a gold lion rampant (rearing) crowned with a ducal coronet against a red and white barry (heraldic pattern of horizontal stripes); and two quarters with a gold cross moline (arms of equal length with forked ends) on a light blue field (ground), alternating with quarters of red and ermine (black tail on white) lozenges. It is surmounted by a ducal coronet and surrounded with the badge of the Order of the Garter, the highest rank of chivalry in England. The latter incorporates a gold buckle and the motto honi soit qui mal y pense (shamed be [he] who thinks ill of it) in gold Gothic lettering. A second roundel with the related armorial crest is also owned by the museum (Crest of Charles Brandon).
