This bronze sculpture depicts Hercules' third labor, in which he was tasked with capturing the Ceryneian Hind, a sacred deer of Artemis, without harming it. After a year-long chase, Hercules finally caught the exhausted deer. He then brought the hind to King Eurystheus, who wanted it to become part of his menagerie. However, Heracles returned the hind to the wild, fulfilling his promise to Artemis.
