Oil painting on canvas. The painting was commissioned by the Wyoming State Capitol 100th Birthday Committee. This painting is about the passage of time: the passage of individuals and their dreams into this unique landscape, the coming together of people from disparate pasts, and the emergence of Wyoming as a state. Just as the past has provided the foundation on which we build our lives today, what we dream today will pave the way for future generations to come.
According to the artist: I draw and I paint. Ideas are the result of an experience. Drawing is, for me, a tool for recording a moment from life's experience. Painting is a process by which I collect and layer memories and thoughts inspired by the moment. Drawing from life forces me to see. Painting allows me to imagine-composing, sculpting, and contrasting light and color, shape, and space, form and content - to attempt to recreate the breath of a moment and hold it for eternity.
