The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

Herm of Dionysos wearing a large fan-like headdress with a tongue and dart pattern. The figure is beardless and has shoulder-length hair. The herm has a left and right arm boss (square protrusion) and a bulge on the front of the pillar that represents male genitalia. Evidence of polychromy includes red on the hair, black on the headdress, and red and black on parts of the pillar and base. The paint seems to indicate a garment tied around the middle of the pillar and a stole about the shoulders.
