Hestercombe House 1872: The Drawing Room with C. W. Bampfylde's painting, 'Maid in the Mill', decorating the east wall.

The ‘Maid in the Mill’ wall painting by Bampfylde, depicted a scene from the popular comic opera, Maid in the Mill, first performed in London 1765. It was destroyed during an extensive remodelling of Hestercombe House by Lord Portman 1873-77.
