High Stables, a detached racing stable range on the Studley Royal estate, was built between 1728 and 1732. It was built by john Simpson and Robert Doe, probably to designs by Colen Campbell and Roger Morris. With Palladian styling, it comprises four ranges and corner towers surrounding a square courtyard. After Studley Royal House was destroyed by fire in 1946, High Stables became the principal residence. Deer continue to animate the views into the landscape, as their ancestors have done for hundreds of years.
