Highgate Cemetery, Highgate, Camden, Greater London

Highgate Cemetery was laid out by the London Cemetery Company, which had been founded in 1836 by the architect and civil engineer, Stephen Geary. The cemetery opened in 1839 and was consecrated by the Bishop of London. Highgate became a popular cemetery for burials, and as a place for promenading and for enjoying views over London.
