This drawing shows the various structures that occupy the museum core at Highland. The structure at the top is the Monroe Presidential Guest House, confirmed through dendrochronology (tree ring dating), as built in 1818. The central structure is a Victorian era house built by the Massey family in the 1870s. The dashed outline at the bottom represents the foundation of the 1799 Monroe home, which was lost to history after Monroe sold Highland in 1828.
