The work is a highway made of used clothes. In contemporary China, increasing number of cars needs more highways to be built. The artist uses used clothes, a material related to intimate, personal memories and history, to express the loss and pursuit for individuality within the context of expanding globalization.
High-speed development is the characteristic of contemporary Chinese society. This high-speed greatly benefits our life with a high cost, as the ancient proverb states, “More haste, less speed.” The soft path of the highway that the artist paves, with the warmth of personal memories, will slow down our pace, and makes us ponder: sometimes being slow is a faster way to achieve our goal.
