Sotter lived in Holicong, Pennsylvania, near New Hope in a converted nineteenth century stone barn. In his studio there, the artist painted landscape scenes of Bucks County. He was drawn to the region from Pittsburgh to study with Redfield and as early as 1902, participated in the annual exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy. In addition to painting, Sotter also designed stained glass windows for churches and ecclesiastical structures.
